#Repost @natgeo ・・・ Photograph by @paulnicklen while #onassignment for @natgeo. A Kermode Bear, also known as a Spirit Bear falls into a deep sleep under an old-growth red-cedar tree in the Great Bear Rainforest of British Columbia. A Spirit Bears is actually a black bear that possesses a rare recessive gene that turns their fur completely white. They are not albino. After spending a full day of watching this large male eat salmon in a small creek and then following him through this ancient forest, the highlight of the encounter happened when he let me lean against the same tree he was under and take this portrait. Definitely an encounter that I will never forget. To see a picture of him doing serious battle with another black bear, please follow me on @paulnicklen. #gratitude #nature #bear #spiritbear #kermodebear #wildlife @natgeocreative @thephotosociety #beauty #keepexploring #letsexplore #love #follow #instagood #photooftheday #picoftheday #instagramhub #keepitwild

#Repost @instagram ・・・ Let’s talk numbers: More than 100,000 music fans, 15,000 workers, 5,000 portable bathrooms, 10,000 hand-painted trash bins and one giant stage in the shape of a pyramid. It’s a far shot from what the Glastonbury Festival (@glastoofficial), which takes place every June in southwest England, was when it first started in 1970. The oft-told tale from that year: tickets cost one British pound and admission included free milk from the farm it sat on. Things are a bit different now – there are more people, more bands (this year’s headliners include Kanye West and Florence and the Machine), more money and new exhibits. But the spirit has stayed the same. “It’s never rested on its laurels,” says Emily Eavis, co-organizer of the festival. “Every year we dramatically add lots of things and take some things away and move it on and keep it completely fresh.” #InstaGig #Glastonbury For more music stories from around the globe, check out @music. #Repost @mattiasklumofficial ・・・ I feel very privileged that I got to spend some time with this female polar bear and her cubs in Svalbard. I took this photograph right after the little family had devoured a bearded seal. After a good meal some well deserved time to relax. The other cub was already fast asleep. #svalbard #polar #polarbears #arctic #savingthearctic #climatechange #bwsp #conservation #expedition #mattiasklum #cubs #mom #predator @natgeo @natgeocreative @thephotosociety @mattiasklumcollection

#Repost @natgeo ・・・ Photo by @mattiasklumofficial A female polar bear greeting one of her cubs near the gorgeous Nordenskiöld glacier, Svalbard. Polar bear cubs drink their mother's milk and depend on her for survival for at least 20 months. Please go to @mattiasklumofficial to see her beautiful morning stretch! Her hunting skill and success is critical for her own survival and for feeding and teaching her cubs to find food for themselves. According to scientists like Alison Ames, Polar bears may be just as smart as some apes. Their success at hunting seals in a dynamic arctic environment is one sign of their brain power. "This is learned behavior and reveals that polar bears are very intelligent animals. They are highly cognitive creatures that top the food chain in polar regions. You have to be very clever to do that. Hunting and trapping a seal is no easy matter." - Alison Ames #svalbard #polar #polarbears #arctic #savingthearctic #stopclimatechange #bwsp #expedition #mattiasklum #cubs #UN #mom #IQ #SDGS #predator @natgeocreative @thephotosociety @bigworldsmallplanet @natgeo
